Dental Bonding

Dental bonding is a cosmetic procedure that allows the dentist to reshape or repair your smile using composite resin.  Oftentimes, we can easily and affordably repair chipped or uneven teeth, restoring your self-confidence. Additionally, we can usually complete the work in a single visit and patients don’t always need to be numb!

As with all cosmetic procedures, your teeth will wear and discolor over time; however, resin composite is very durable and typically lasts many years.

Reasons for cosmetic dental bonding:

  • Closing spaces or gaps
  • Fixing chipped teeth
  • Fixing decayed teeth (teeth with cavities)
  • Lengthening uneven teeth
  • Protecting roots exposed by receding gums
  • Restoring badly discolored teeth

However, we are sometimes limited in our capabilities with to transform a smile.  In cases where more work is needed, we use porcelain veneers and/or Invisalign to get the best possible results.

What does dental bonding involve?

To begin, we will isolate the teeth we’re working on, cleaning and preparing them for bonding.  Next, we apply a glue, or bonding resin, and place tooth-colored composite.  We build, shape, light cure, and apply more layers.  Once the composite is fully set and hardened, we smooth, buff, and polish to blend in naturally with the surrounding teeth.  In some situations, we recommend teeth whitening before bonding treatment.  We will discuss your goals and desires before starting treatment and help advise the best way forward
